This is a very rare glimpse of a pregnant mermaid, as they tend to stay hidden in a lagoon inaccessible by ordinary humans to protect their future children. She's one of my four contributions to Mermay, a month of mermaids, in 2017. This year I wanted to create a mermaid that represented each of the four main elements; earth, air, fire, and water. What better representation of earth, than a mother? This piece also has a few Easter eggs inspired by the Disney movie, "Moana" which I fell in love with.
